Pua Kala // Argemone glauca
A charm for celebrating resilience, tenacity and being unapologetically yourself.
Pua Kala means "thorny flower". Apart from being the only poppy native to Hawai'i, it is one of the few endemic plants here to have evolved thorns and prickles. Pua Kala is also called "Prickly Poppy".
It has medicinal qualities which include using the sap and seeds for toothache, nerve pain, ulcers and warts. Though, it is toxic to consume and doesn't have the same narcotic qualities of other poppies.
